The Franco Zeffirelli Foundation was established in Florence out of Zeffirelli’s desire to help spread knowledge and culture of the performing arts. To this end, Zeffirelli wanted to make available to experts and enthusiasts his artistic and cultural heritage, consisting of the varied materials of his work as a set designer, costume designer, director and writer, collected, processed and preserved over an international career spanning more than seventy years. These materials are arranged: a. in the Archive of his production of texts, drawings, paintings, photographs, director’s notes; b. in an Author’s Library-the Library of Arts and Entertainment-full of some 10,000 volumes testifying to the breadth and depth of his study and research; c. in the Museum that houses more than 300 works, including sketches, figurines, costumes, models, props, photographs and videos, as well as the 2 new immersive rooms dedicated to Maria Callas and the Opera. The Foundation also conducts training activities, promotes and supports research, organizes and hosts conferences, concerts, book presentations, and conventions.
