Why choose Florence: culture, hospitality and world-class event services

Renowned for its art, culture and warm hospitality, Florence is a premier destination for conferences, meetings and events. The city offers outstanding accommodation, excellent infrastructure and the dedicated support of the Destination Florence Convention Bureau. That’s why events held here attract up to 30% more delegates compared to other destinations.

An accessible, walkable city

One of Florence’s greatest strengths is its accessibility. Strategically located in the heart of Italy, the Tuscan capital is well connected to major European hubs and global destinations via an efficient public transport network.

The international airport is directly linked to the historic city centre in just 15 minutes via tram, while the main train station is just a short walk from the city’s congress centre. Once in Florence, everything is within easy reach – hotels, venues and cultural landmarks are all located within walking distance, allowing delegates to move around on foot and truly enjoy the beauty of the city.

Sustainable mobility

The most efficient – and most charming – way to get around Florence is on foot. The city’s compact historic centre, covering just 5 square kilometres and enclosed by medieval walls, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the 1980s. It’s home to Florence’s most iconic cultural landmarks, as well as the city’s key event and congress facilities – all within easy walking distance.

Moreover, Florence’s human-scale layout and efficient public transport system offer plenty of eco-friendly ways to move around independently and with minimal environmental impact. Every small gesture contributes to a more sustainable city.

Tram

The city’s tram network continues to expand, offering faster and greener travel options, including direct connections to Florence Airport and the Careggi University Hospital.

Bike Sharing

Whether electric or traditional, bikes are available for hire via app throughout the city, making it easy to explore Florence along its network of cycle paths.

Scooter Sharing

A fun, sustainable and practical way to get around. Just remember to follow traffic rules and park responsibly!

Enhancing Florence’s Intellectual Capital

Florence is not only an exceptional city in which to host events – it is a hub of excellence where culture, research and innovation converge. Through the Florence Academic Leadership Programme (FALP), our Convention Bureau is committed to promoting the academic and scientific community, along with the city’s Ambassadors, who play a vital role in the destination’s growth. We support them throughout the entire conference bidding process, relieving them of operational burdens so they can focus on the prestige of hosting a successful event.

LET’S MAKE FLORENCE GROW TOGETHER

Beyond the event: a legacy that lasts

More than just a congress. In Florence, every event is a chance to create a meaningful and lasting impact on the city and its community. Conferences and corporate gatherings go beyond knowledge and cultural exchange — they can become real catalysts for change, by contributing to the cultural, economic and scientific development of the region, transforming ideas into action. Choosing Florence means investing in a forward-thinking city. Let’s help it grow, together.

Case History

Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation

For the 2025 Low Vision congress, the Convention Bureau of Fondazione Destination Florence fostered meaningful connections between the international event and the local community. Working alongside Firenze Fiera, OIC Group and Ambassadors Paolo Limoli and Gianni Virgili, several inclusive initiatives were launched: a collaboration with the Guide Dog School, tactile tours at the Uffizi Gallery, visits to the Braille centre and Meyer Children’s Hospital, and audits on both physical and digital accessibility of venues.

Tauck 100

In February 2025, Florence welcomed the 100th anniversary celebration of the renowned travel company Tauck. More than 700 guests and partners gathered for meetings, daily excursions, gala events, and volunteer activities. Fondazione Destination Florence supported Tauck not only with event logistics but also by fostering local collaborations that created tangible value for the city, including partnerships with Angeli del Bello Firenze, Made in Sipario, and Opera del Duomo.

World Landslide Forum 2023

For the 6th World Landslide Forum, held in Florence in November 2023, Fondazione Destination Florence supported a legacy project focused on sustainability and disaster prevention. Thanks to the dedication of Ambassador Nicola Casagli and the scientific committee, the event led to the development of a national landslide risk plan and a UNESCO “Open Learning” initiative, offering educational modules on landslide risk, including dedicated resources for developing countries, particularly in Africa.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Incorporating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into events means creating experiences that deliver shared value for the local area. Florence’s Convention Bureau assists companies in designing meetings, team-building activities and incentive programmes that prioritise social and environmental sustainability. Through tailored solutions and strategic partnerships, every event becomes an opportunity for responsible and impactful growth.
